Careys Design Team (CDT) delivered a complex temporary works design for the basement expansion at Rathbone Square in London. The complexity of the works required an exceptional visualization and modelling strategy from CDT who delivered construction sequencing and design works for the project.

The Rathbone Square project was characterized by a range of logistical and site-based challenges, including the installation of temporary works within the existing basement. CDT identified that installation of traditional steel props would be unfeasible due to the challenge of maneuvering them within the confined space of the basement. To overcome this, CDT designed an innovative concrete propping system which could be installed in-situ and then later removed.

Construction Method Simulation:
This project involved the demolition of the decommissioned Royal Mail head office, excavation of the new basement and complex temporary works to the substructure and superstructure.

The project required careful logistics planning and construction sequencing before the works commenced on site. To do this we used BIM applications to model the existing basement, the proposed basement and surrounding buildings and then sequenced the works based on our program. We then extracted videos and images to communicate our ideas to our clients and the project team.

BIM Modelling and Data Integration:
Our BIM responsibility on this project was to deliver and maintain a LOD 400 model of our design elements for the duration of the construction stage which included the precast stairs, PT layout and temporary works. In addition to this we also provided a LOD 500 Asset Information Model (AIM) to our client which include Data Asset Tagging as per the BIM Execution Plan and the Employers Information Requirements.
