As part of the residential construction phase of the Ballymun Regeneration Scheme, Careys Building & Civil Engineering delivered 93 new housing units and the associated civil engineering works, including road re-alignments, new foul and surface water infrastructure and phased upgrades to statutory services (water, gas, eircom, virgin media, ESB) to the 93 new units and 80 existing units in Shangan Gardens. The project won the prestigious RIAI Irish Architecture Award for Best Housing 2013 for the Shangan 5 Development.
The new residential units comprised of two and three bedroom, detached/semi-detached terraced townhouses and three-storey apartments. In addition to constructing these units, we also constructed all associated external works, fencing and walling.
The first phase of works, Phase 5A, included construction of 43 units and the realignment of Shangan Avenue. All existing service corridors were decommissioned, removed and replaced, enabling the full plot for construction of Phase 5B to be accessed. Phase 5B involved construction of a further 50 units that ranged from a single storey to three-storeys tall.
The units were designed to be energy efficient which meant achieving the highest standards of structural airtightness and passive ventilation, in addition to the use of low carbon construction materials, condensing boilers, and photovoltaic panels to achieve the required energy ratings.
