Careys Building & Civil Engineering was the main contractor on the Ballymun Contract 2 which was the main civil engineering and infrastructure contract for the largest regeneration project in Europe.
The contract involved the complete reconstruction of 1.2km of the existing Ballymun Road dual carriageway into six lanes with associated multi-junction works. The project also included the construction of four interlinking roads, including all surface and foul sewers, and twin foul rising mains. In addition, we carried out phased upgrade works to replace existing water mains, gas, ESB and Eircom services while maintaining service at all times. We also installed ESB ducting up to 110Kv, CCTV/ telecommunications services, and bespoke public lighting and traffic signals infrastructure.
The entire project included hard landscaping, street furniture, and soft landscaping.
Our team was responsible for the phased replacement of the existing district heating pipework. The total length of trenching installed was 1,200m with 2,400m of pipework, and included 114 chambers, telemetry ducting and cabling, in addition to associated drainage works.
Furthermore, as part of our commitment to the local community, we engaged with various community interest groups and communicated directly with all residents affected by the works. Approximately 10% of our workforce were local employees.
